Our programs begin with an interview to determine if the person is a candidate for intake. An intake assessment determines whether a person will be placed in the residential Short-term 21 day, Long-term 90 day or a Day program. Factors such as whether or not the person has a job, a support system, history of compliance, relapses and breakthroughs will assist in determining the correct program. The residential programs are gender specific. Men and women are separated for groups and one-on-ones. Fraternizing is prohibited.

Short-term Program
The 21-day short-term residential program includes a 4-month follow-up program. The client will be required to complete 12 hours of program participation per week during the follow-up process. After completing the follow-up requirements the client is considered an alumnus of Brentwood and encouraged to attend regular meetings.

Long-term Program
After 21 days, clients are reassessed to determine whether they should stay for our Long-term 90 day residential program.

Day Program
The Brentwood day program runs for 21 days from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. It is sometimes the preferred and only option for those for whom the demand of family or other responsibilities mean that they cannot participate in the residential treatment program.

Treatment
After the intake process is complete clients are assigned a councillor, peer group and a room. A fellow senior client or Alumni will assist in the initial exposure to Brentwood. This helps the new client feel comfortable and accepted, which is extremely important during the first stage of recovery.

From Monday to Friday, the day begins at 8 AM when the client has their first "One-on-One" talk of the day. This one-on-one is with a fellow Client or Brentwood Alumni. The day will include another one-on-one, several group meetings that are led by councillors and 2 main meetings where all groups, alumni and councillors attend. The day program ends at 7 PM where clients are encouraged to have fellowship time with their peers and Alumni. The weekends are less structured but still include meetings and fellowship.

Clients are exposed to people constantly during the recovery process, encouraging interactivity. This way, they do not isolate. They form healthy relationships with other clients and Alumni. Clients are tasked with certain chores by a job co-ordinator who is one of their peers. Clients become a core part of Brentwood and are responsible to treat it as if it were a home away from home.

Aftercare
Aftercare is the program offered to the graduates. To be eligible, they must continue to abstain. If they relapse, the situation is assessed and a determination is made as to whether they need to re-enter the program or attend meetings. The success rate varies by age group and individual situation. A client with a family, job, and home, whose spouse and children have been involved with his /her recovery, is more likely to succeed. Support is critical.
